This position on the Performance Coatings Group Commercialization Engineering team is located at an R&D Center in Minneapolis, MN and is accountable for new product scale up, commercialization, process optimization, and troubleshooting. The position will be focused on supporting the General Industrial Liquid Coatings division, including making lab batches, defining process conditions, traveling to observe production batches, and leveraging knowledge of both operations and technical staff. In this position, the individual will lead small, moderately technically challenging projects or large portions of technically challenging large projects and use their expertise to ensure successful new product commercialization and efficient process design.

• Optimizing formulas, equipment, and processes to produce quality industrial coatings.
• Performing a variety of laboratory tasks using general instruments and advanced lab equipment.
• Collaborating with engineers, chemists, and operations personnel on projects.
• Using troubleshooting skills to diagnose issues and determine solutions.
• Implementing recommendations and continuous improvement projects.
• Communicating heavily with R&D labs and production sites.
• Developing standardized processes for industrial coating commercialization and production.
• Using statistics to design experiments and interpret experimental and production data.
• Using root cause analysis to identify and resolve quality issues at production plants.
• Developing work plans and timelines for projects.
• Writing technical reports of lab results and production observations and presenting findings to R&D and operations stakeholders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
3.0 GPA or higher
• 1+ years of experience in an operations or R&D setting
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar
• 3+ years of experience in a chemical operations or chemical R&D setting
• Experience with design of experiments and statistical analysis
• Yellow or Green Belt Six Sigma trained
• Ability to effectively interact and build relationships across multiple levels of management and technical personnel
• High level of initiative and leadership ability
