Job Purpose
The Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) Design Engineer will coordinate/perform a full range of design/development activities relevant to departmental and organizational needs while correlating with 4MOC/SDM counterparts, international engineering teams as well as external vendors and customers. The associate will assume PIC responsibility for assigned parts within a development project(s).
Key Accountabilities
- Produce 3D designs and 2D layouts of automotive electrical components from initial concept through mass production. Components may include vision systems and radar for automotive driving, sensors for safety systems and related hardware.
- Evaluate feasibility, cost/maintenance requirements of designs and/or applications.
- Thorough understanding of current design guides and propose new design guides to Technical Management, as necessary.
- Manage development projects/schedules, coordinate with corollary departments/suppliers and research new technologies and market trends.
- Writing and presenting technical reports.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- 0-3 years of relevant design experience preferred.
- Basic proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 (preferred).
- Basic understanding of Class-A surfacing development and correlation with styling departments.
- Basic understanding of design including detailed component calculations (including tolerancing), cost/weight reduction and packaging feasibility of related parts.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with the willingness to pro-actively seek out information from others.
- Knowledge of plastic parts molding process.
- Knowledge of metal component design and fatigue simulation.
- Basic understanding of electrical hardware fundamentals and software development process.
- Willing to travel (domestically and internationally) to coordinate with global agencies.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Computer skills, such as PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project, Word, CATIA, CAE, etc.
Working Conditions
- Commitment to work necessary work hours to achieve all responsibilities, including overtime and operating periodically at early and late day hours.
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
- Kneeling, bending, sitting, standing, and manoeuvring inside of vehicles is required.
- Travel is sometimes required - ~5% (International travel may be requested).
- Office work is split between on-site and remote (Work from Home, WFH).
- Vehicle-level testing is conducted either on-site in a specified lab or offsite at a supplier/contracted facility.
