Job Summary:
Assists in performing a variety of activities for behavioral health patients under supervision and in collaboration with other mental health care professionals.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organizes and initiates the daily schedule with assigning staff tasks on unit(s). Assists clinical staff and milieu staff in treatment program and milieu activities as delegated. Ensures patient safety and compliance with established policies.
- Acts as an advisor for strategic therapeutic interventions or acts as an advisor of the therapeutic intervention to reduce therapeutic holds on the unit. Attends treatment team meetings and works with nurses and therapists. Reports improved/problem behaviors of patients on unit.
- Provides intervention for all high acuity issues, patient crises, or therapeutic holds that arise on the shift. Provides post debriefing of patient crises and therapeutic holds.
- Receives patient care assignments. Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing program activities for patient population served. Apprises the nurse of any changes in patient condition, of patient complaints and of patient/significant other educational needs.
- Orients new patients and significant others to the program and prepare patients for discharge and accompany them upon dismissal as indicated. Participates in the orientation of new employees on unit activities and procedures.
- Facilitates group social skills functions of the milieu. Facilitates task functions of the milieu such as resident community meetings and/or patient psycho educational functions.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in behavioral health or a related field, or equivalent years of experience and education

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Constant use of hearing to receive oral communication and hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Constant use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
- Constant lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent use of speech to share information through oral communication.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, twisting and walking.
- Frequent use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, reaching, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing over 50 lbs.
- Occasional keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling, running and lifting/moving patients.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
