Summary:
Superintendent is responsible for all maintenance agreement and non-agreement employees, ensuring the assigned bus fleet for that location is serviced and maintained to be ready for the required bus pull out for that location. The Garage Superintendent is responsible to ensure that the facility and the property is operating in a clean and safe manor with all system functioning properly along with a fleet of Non-Revenue equipment assigned to the location. Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provides sufficient, safe, clean, operable buses to meet daily service requirements through effective supervision of the inspection, cleaning, servicing, troubleshooting, and repair of the garage fleet.
- Responds to daily problems and changing priorities. Coordinates daily operations with the Transportation Department and other departments as needed.
- Ensures proper supplies of fuel, oil, parts and expendables for the maintenance and operation of a bus fleet. Manages garage stock room and the ordering of parts, materials and fluids.
- Implements cost control and productivity improvements. Controls the use of overtime hours. Develops and enforces garage operating budget.
- Administers labor agreements. Provides effective discipline. Maintains a good working relationship with union.
- Supervises, trains, and develops an effective group including agreement and non-agreement maintenance personnel. Oversees the effectiveness of subordinate managers.
- Provides for a hazard free workplace by enforcing safety and environmental programs and procedures, by implementing new programs and by properly maintaining the facility.
- Responsible for monitoring the timeliness and completeness of the revenue collection system, including proper vaulting procedures and reporting procedures.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Eight years of experience in bus vehicle or heavy fleet maintenance
- Six years of supervisory/managerial experience, including assigning work and following-up and performance management
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field desired
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and experience with Union Contracts
- Employees Time Management
- Bus Fleet Maintenance and Service, diesel and heavy mechanical experience preferred
- Stock Room Inventory Management
Working Environment:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented office environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time, to kneel/bend, and to move throughout the workday.
- Local travel is required; evening and weekend travel is required occasionally.
- Office work environment, overseeing employees working in a loud, busy environment.
