The Tiger Team Technician II is responsible for working with a small group of individuals in the day-to-day support of regional operations. This role is responsible for performing various tasks, including generator bearing exchange, up tower gearbox repairs, pitch ram exchange, yaw drive exchange, troubleshooting, training, and safety exercises. This job also maintains accountability and readiness of tools, equipment, and vehicles, provides technical guidance to the O&M team, maintains records of service activities, and helps maintain the work ethic and culture of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Assure that all activities are performed safely consistent with policies and procedures established for the wind farm site. This includes wearing essential safety equipment, including a personal fall arrest system, as well as identifying potential hazards on the job
- Pass physical fitness tests required to maintain Global Wind Organization Certification
- Climb wind towers daily and access wind turbines to perform maintenance tasks
- Lift, carry, and transport essential equipment, tools, and materials to the job site
- Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions when appropriate
- Lead and/or conduct acceptance and performance tests on systems and equipment following planned maintenance or outages
- Train and guide less experienced operations and maintenance personnel
- Perform safety and other wind farm-related tasks when assigned and fill in as backup to personnel at other RWE sites when necessary
- Perform turbine maintenance, including services, major components, generator bearing, pitch ram, gearbox HSS/IMS, and shaft bearing exchange work. Additionally, perform software updates and troubleshooting as required
- Travel to other Sites as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in Wind School and/or Mechanical degree preferred
- Global Wind Organization Certificate preferred
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in Wind, Solar, and BESS
- A degree from an accredited institution (excluding correspondence or online programs) can substitute for 2 years of experience if it meets the following criteria: 2-year or 4-year degree, a field of study in technical sciences, such as Engineering, Physics, Power Systems, or closely related disciplines
- The following credentials can substitute for 1 year of experience: Current Journeyman License, Current Master Electrician License, Wind Technician Certification
- A valid unrestricted driver's license in good standing is required
- Willing to relocate to within 1 hour drive of the site is required
- Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.)
- Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday
- Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
- Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
- Ability to work within tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
- Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
- Strong leadership and communication and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
- Ability to multi-task while working independently and as part of a team
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
- Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable
- Is detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business concepts
- This position is a field-based role that requires some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
