Why We Love Mason City, and You Should Too:
Where do we start? First off, our team loves that it is a safe community that is super friendly and welcoming. The school system is great, with three high schools: Mason City and Clear Lake City school, and a private catholic school, Newnan School System in Mason City. The cost of living is very reasonable, especially in today’s day and age.
There is a lot to do in the area from music venues, and theater to outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and hunting. There is a large cycling community, many varied summer sports leagues such as softball, and winter sports like snowmobiling, hockey, to ice fishing. The local commercial airport has a great flying community. Clear Lake is a sister city to Mason City and is only a few minutes away with the largest lake in North Iowa. Many of our team members do enjoy the bike paths, the local sports scene, as well as hunting and fishing. Two hockey teams in the North American Hockey League play out of a brand new beautiful downtown rink: The Bulls of Tier II and the Mason City Toros Tier III USHL hockey. Kids stay very involved in the year-round sports. In the spring/fall, there is football, baseball, soccer, etc., and in the winter, there is basketball, wrestling, and hockey.
Yes, Mason City and Clear Lake are smaller cities, but the area has everything you need. You get the slower, midwestern hospitality and the conveniences of the independent retail shops. You can visit your friends in minutes without driving for an hour. There are larger retailers like Walmart, Kohls, and Target in town, but many of the better businesses are local. Being less than two hours from Minneapolis gets us access to anything we want, such as major concert tours, international travel, or professional sporting events. It takes us only a little longer to get to the big Minneapolis events than as it does to those who live in the city due to the traffic in larger cities., and you don’t have to put up with all of the downsides of living in a big city! We love living in Mason City, and if you’re looking for an amazing community to raise a family or live a less hectic life then this is the place for you.
