The Airfoils Mechanical Design Team Lead is responsible for the design and development of flowpath hardware within the High Pressure Turbine (HPT) for the LM9000 program through critical NPI milestones. The team is made up of US individuals, but requires cross-functional collaboration with global teams, including other module design teams (rotor/structures) and supporting functions. As the Team Lead, you will provide leadership and technical mentorship to validate component designs, support engine test, and help deliver hardware for a world class engine. You will also work closely with your supervisor to help manage priorities for the design team and drive a commitment to continuous improvement with a lean mindset.
This position has the flexibility of optional hybrid schedule once fully trained. The hybrid schedule consists of working in the office minimum of 3 days per week and the option to work from home on the other days, based on team/project schedules.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and analysis of HPT airfoils for the LM9000 program using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements
- Provide technical guidance that influences outcomes to other people supporting complex tasks; mentor others in the organization
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned hardware consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Develop action plans, with guidance, to respond to issues/ problems
- Recommend, the approach to meet the technical and program requirements
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews with internal and external customers
- Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
- Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others;
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited university
- Minimum of 5 years prior relevant engineering experience, OR an Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited university and 7+ years prior relevant engineering experience

- Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead programs / projects interacting within the organization vertically and horizontally. This includes documentation, planning, marketing and execution.
- Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor less experienced talent to achieve business deliverables within set timelines.
- Clear thinking and effective problem identification and solution skills. Personal agility and resilience. Previous experience in turbine hot section design ownership of rotating airfoils including familiarity with the use of NX-Teamcenter, FEA software and tools.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in-person and remote
- History of building an inclusive culture
- Experience in design, analysis, manufacture of mechanical components
- Prior airfoil design experience
- Passion for the aviation industry and advancing the state-of-the-art
