The Technical Service Representative has knowledge of surface preparation equipment and methods as well as the successful application of industrial coatings using single and heated plural component spray equipment. Responsibilities include conducting product training and application demonstrations while ensuring our customers’ expectations are met when it comes to job site support, supporting the efforts of sales representatives and also be a liaison to the lab organization. This role engages with customers in various industrial segments to include steel fabrication, bridge and highway, water/wastewater and the petrochemical markets.

- Communicate competitive information, new products and selling issues to Protective & Marine Sales Reps and Area Sales Manager.
- Communicate extended product knowledge in protective & marine coatings, linings, tank bottom repairs, etc.
- Attend coatings seminars that are pertinent to protective& marine sales/marketing.
- Manage product test runs at designated customer facilities.
- Support national accounts specifications approval process.
- Assist sales reps in calling on prospective customers/target accounts; provide technical support for product demos as directed.
- Maintain contact with laboratory on current technical issues.
- Assist with equipment installations and various line or equipment modifications/adjustments.
- Conduct technical training seminars at customers’ facilities.
- Evaluate product complaints and decide best way to resolve problem.
- Ensure customer quality and service expectations are met.
- Assist customers in preparing paint specifications to meet product applications.
- Troubleshoot on-line technical problems such as correcting batches and formulation of products.
- Advise customers of product line changes and improvements.
- Maintain expertise in industrial & marine equipment use and surface preparation.
- Shade product batches using intermix system.
- Assist customers with product inventory control/re-ordering.
- Train customers on product knowledge and application methods.
- Evaluate product complaints and decide the best way to resolve the problem.
- Assist sales reps by preparing samples, panels, etc. for presentations.
- Coordinate technical service issues between branch, sales reps and product service room.

FORMAL EDUCATION
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Bachelor’s
- Degree in Business or a related field.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED
- Must be 18 years of age to apply.
- Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status.
- Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have the ability to operate a computer and communicate via the telephone.
- Must be able to travel at least 60%
PREFERRED:
- 2-4 years of experience in the coatings industry working as an applicator or coatings inspector.
- Strong demonstrated knowledge of Protective & Marine products, industrial surface preparations, inspection equipment and application equipment is required.
- Possess expert equipment knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, and resolve customer problems with spray equipment and pumps.
- Experience working within shipyards or heavy industrial environment and resinous flooring as this position will communicate to customers extended product knowledge of numerous Protective and Marine Coatings, lining, tank bottom repairs etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills must be able to write detailed reports.
- NACE or SSPC certified.
- Experience working as an industrial coatings applicator.
- Experience utilizing various testing equipment and interpreting the data.
- Experience in failure analysis data is a plus.
