Position Highlights:
- Schedule: Work 12-hour shifts on Fridays and Saturdays (variable daytime hours), and on-call for 12 hours on Sundays.
- Status: .6 FTE – part-time.
- Compensation: All hours worked will be paid at time and a half. On-Call hours will be paid at $2.50 per hour. Call back is paid at time and a half.

- Program Commitment: Those hired into the Weekend Cadre Program will make a 12-month commitment to the Program. The Weekend Cadre will commit to working 48 out of 52 weekends per year. One of the four weekends off a year being an OakLeaf Surgical recognized holiday weekend, and the other three out of the four weekends must be a non-holiday weekend.
Job Summary:
The Surgical Technologist is an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure
• Scrubs, gowns, and gloves
• Opens sterile supplies and sets up sterile table with instruments, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure
• Anticipates additional supplies needed during the procedure
• Keeps accurate records throughout the procedure and communicates them to circulator
• Properly cares for specimens
• Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon
• Sponges or suctions operative site
• Applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders
• Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon
• Connects drains to suction apparatus
• Prepares and applies sterile dressing
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants
• Helps in draping sterile field
• Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure
• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization
• Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room
• Assists in prepping room for the next patient
• Regular and prompt work-site attendance
• Performs other duties as they are assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
• Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• Degree from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• Surgical Technologist certification preferred
• Five (5) or more years' experience as a Surgical Technologist in a hospital environment is required
• BLS certification is required upon hire
• Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
• Is aware of professional standards and performs in accordance with them
• Ability to relate and work effectively with others
• Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
