Summary:
Paid Student Nurse Externship at St. Mary’s Hospital
Our student nurse extern program provides the opportunity to gain supervised, hands-on working experience while still in nursing school. Nurse externs gain valuable experience to help them prepare for careers as members of the medical community tasked with providing high-quality care to patients.
Nurse Externship Program Overview:
Nurse Extern I:
- Candidate MUST be actively enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program AND
- Candidate MUST successfully completed at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation before Nurse Extern I offer can be extended.
- Nurse Extern I’s Performs or assists with patient care utilizing the nursing process under the supervision of a registered nurse preceptor. Provides care for patients of all ages according to the standards of care specific to the individual's needs.

Qualifications:
Education
Nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited ADN, BSN or MSN program, or graduated with ADN or BSN within the previous 1 year.
Student must have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation.
Experience
Successfully completed at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
