The Qualified Medication Administration Person position is responsible for providing medication management services and personal care for residents with professionalism, dignity and respect following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern assisted living communities. You are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Medication Administration Duties:
• Order, store and assist with medications according to community policy and procedure, and current physician orders
• Maintain, transcribe and document in the Medication Administration Record according to community policy and procedure
• Maintain current resident record for each resident including but not limited to, obtaining current physician orders and clarifying orders
• Reorder medications as needed or notify the designated staff member using appropriate protocols when there is a need for reordering medications
• Accurately report medication refusals to designated supervisor and notify physician as directed for refusal of medications
• Perform vital signs as ordered and follow prescribed parameters in administering medications
• Maintain security of all medications and ensure that controlled drugs are kept under double lock and counted between each shift according to policy and procedure
• Complete Incident Report form as per policy and procedure
• Respond to emergencies per policy and procedure
• Observes and reports changes in resident status, health or otherwise to supervisor
• Ensures that proper documentation occurs timely
• May be asked to provide assistance to residents in Assisted Living and/or Memory Care
Resident Care Duties
• * Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming, bathing and dressing, as requested by residents or directed by supervisor
• Attends to the personal care needs of residents in a timely manner
• Regularly review, follow, and adhere to residents' service plans
• Document and report care provided and resident observations
• Perform vital signs and heights and weights
• Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner
• Monitors the safety and well-being of residents
• Reports changes in resident status, health or otherwise to supervisor
• Demonstrate knowledge of infection control and universal precautions
• Provide information, encourage, and participate with residents in activity focused programs
• May be asked to provide assistance to residents in Assisted Living and/or Memory Care
Relationship Duties
• Deal tactfully when personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
• Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors
• Relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community
Department Duties
• Attends, participates and contributes to monthly staff meetings addressing resident, departmental and community needs
• Responsible for cleaning common areas, occupied and vacant apartments, and perform laundry services in accordance with Community policies and procedures
• Not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
• Perform all other duties as assigned
Education
A high school diploma/GED
Experience
6-months experience in a senior living community (preferred)
License/Certifications
• Valid Adult Basic First Aid and CPR Certification
• Current medication administration qualification from approved state agency
Physical Demands
• Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 25# to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
• May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
Work Environment
• Moves intermittently during working hours
• Is subject to frequent interruptions
• Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances
• Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
• Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
• Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
• Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants
• Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
• May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
