What will you be doing?The Packaging Technician is responsible for performing cleaning, painting, packaging and labeling operations within a job shop manufacturing environment. This role involves efficiently and accurately cleaning, painting, and packaging finished products according to customer and internal specifications and ensuring that all packaging materials are handled safely. The Packaging Technician plays a crucial role in the final stage of the manufacturing process by ensuring that products are properly cleaned, painted packaged, protected, and ready for shipment.Duties & Responsibilities:
• Clean/ Paint/ Packaging Operations: Perform cosmetic clean up of items and painting as required. Once ready complete custom packaging for all jobs, including building boxes and skids, tagging packaged goods with shipping information and labels. Follow packaging guidelines, work instructions, and customer specifications to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• Material Handling: Safely handle and transport packaging materials, such as boxes, containers, cartons, pallets, and wrapping materials. Loading and unloading incoming and outgoing shipments onto LTL carriers. Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of packaging supplies to avoid shortages and production delays.
• Quality Control: Conduct inspections of packaged products to ensure they meet quality standards and comply with customer requirements. Photographing all packaged goods for each job that is packaged and shipped. Identify and address any packaging defects or discrepancies promptly. Report any quality issues to supervisors or quality control personnel.
• Equipment Operation: Operate packaging machinery and equipment, such as radial arm saws, nail and screw guns, banders, cranes, fork trucks and pallet jacks. Perform routine maintenance tasks on packaging equipment, troubleshoot minor issues, and notify maintenance staff of any major equipment malfunctions.
• Documentation and Record-keeping: Accurately complete packaging records, and other relevant documentation. Maintain detailed records of packaged quantities, product codes, job numbers, and packaging materials used. Ensure that shipping paperwork, inspection documentation and labels are properly tagged on all outgoing jobs.
• Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while performing packaging operations. Follow proper handling procedures. Comply with company policies, and best practices related to packaging, labeling, and shipping.
• Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate packaging activities with production and shipping, to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of packaged goods. Communicate effectively with supervisors, and the Shipping Clerk any issues, delays, or changes in packaging requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance packaging efficiency, minimize waste, and optimize productivity. Propose and implement innovative ideas to streamline packaging operations and improve overall effectiveness.
Required Skills:
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or vocational training in packaging or related field is a plus.
• Proven experience as a Packaging Technician or in a similar packaging role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in a job shop setting.
• Knowledge of packaging techniques, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret packaging specifications, work instructions, and customer requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Good physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy objects as required.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
