Based in Oakland, CA, we offer food services for the workplace, event catering, design commercial kitchens and food programs, and operate a community kitchen. 1% of our revenue supports donated meals made by our charitable arm, Just Fare Community Kitchen. So far, we have delivered over 410,100 meals to communities fighting food insecurity in the Bay Area.

About Events
Our Events team is dedicated to creating connection and community. Our commitment provides interpersonal gatherings by pairing food with people in the moment one event at a time, at every step of the process. Whether it be drop off platters for a small backyard gathering, an office happy hour, a full service wedding or corporate holiday party, we are dedicated to bringing the source, season, and people together in harmony to create lasting memories for all our clients.
Our Commissary Kitchen is in Oakland, but the events will be in various locations around the Bay Area and Northern CA. Transportation and/or Carpool options are made available for out of town events.
Position Overview
The Event Server will execute all front-of-the-house (FOH) duties in order to put on seamless full-service events. The ideal event server will exhibit the highest level of people and hospitality skills, with such attention to detail that all guests feel uniquely cared for. Servers will be scheduled on a per-event basis, and hours will vary based on availability. The majority of events will take place on weekday evenings and weekends. This part time role has the potential for growth within our company. If interested, this role could also cross-train for back-of-the-house event chef or FOH Lead for our weekday office catering in order to pick up additional shifts.
Responsibilities
• Set up for events; putting out tablecloths and place settings, building buffet display, arranging table placement and setting up service lines
• Provide excellent service and care while providing beverage service, passing appetizers, carrying plates of food and serving guests.
• Restock all smallwares, including glasses, plates and utensils
• Keep event floor clean and cleared of empty glasses and food
• Keep back of house catering area clean and organized
• Load in/out rentals, food, decor and supplies
• Perform cleaning tasks and breakdown of service
• Interact with guests and be able to converse about food
• Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness
• Help uphold Just Fares' hospitality standards
• Assist in the food transportation to and from commissary kitchen in Oakland
Requirements
• 2+ years experience in a professional kitchen or hospitality environment with a passion for food & people
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, communication & patience
• Attendance & punctuality is required with schedule flexibility determined by needs
• Ability to be self-sufficient & make sound decisions on-the-fly
• Understanding & knowledge of safety, sanitation & food handling procedures
• Must be able to lift 50lbs in and out of a van
• Preferred: Basic computer skills (docs, spreadsheets, google docs, etc.)
• Preferred: Good knowledge of local products, producers and farms; with a love of food!
• Preferred: CA driver's license (Not required for all event shifts)
• Basic ServSafe certification

$23 - $23 an hour
Competitive salary / wages in an equitable tiered pay structure for all employees.
Tipping varies depending on Event.
Schedule & Expectations
Typical schedules include weekends for event execution, though may vary depending on event schedule. We care deeply about work life balance and will work with you to ensure a manageable work schedule.
Peak Event Season is generally April through July and September through December.

Saturday, May 25, (Piedmont) - Shifts range from 1pm to Midnight
Saturday, June 15th (Palo Alto) - Shifts range from 1pm to Midnight
Saturday, July 6 (SF) - Shifts range from 1pm to Midnight
Saturday, July 20th (Manchester) - Shifts range from 1pm to Midnight
Actual shift times may vary and will be scheduled and confirmed at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Especially looking for people who can commit to the dates above.
