It’s an exciting time in pet food! Post Holdings, Inc., recently announced an agreement to acquire Perfection Pet Foods, a leading manufacturer of private label and co-manufactured pet food and baked treats. The transaction is anticipated to close by the end of the calendar year in 2023. This role is part of the Perfection Pet Foods team of 250+ employees who will soon join the Post family to help grow the pet food business.
Location Description
Visalia, CA is home to 360,000 square feet of manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, and office space. Approximately 250 employees work here, utilizing the latest technologies and systems, capable of producing extensive, diverse, and innovative pet food products. Visalia is in California’s San Joaquin Valley and the gateway to Sequoia National Park, part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It also has a minor league baseball team, the Visalia California Oaks, and several colleges and universities.
Responsibilities
Shifts Available: Rotating Shift 6 AM to 6 PM and Rotating Shift 6 PM to 6 AM
This is a mid-level position responsible for coordinating warehouse operational needs to meet the needs of production operations and plant shipping operations. Strict compliance with the facility Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions is required.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Operate a forklift to move raw materials or finished products to the warehouse or onto trucks for distribution to customers.
• Complete pre-trip inspections and maintain energy source for lift.
• Operate, changeover, clean, troubleshoot, and maintain good housekeeping on palletizing equipment.
• Inspect and assess quality to ensure standards are met for all product received into the warehouse.
• Reject non-conforming product.
• Complete and maintain quality inventory and preventative maintenance documentation.
• Stack product required onto pallet according to the plant stacking requirements.
• Must maintain warehouse in an organized and clean manner to ensure safety and good manufacturing processes.
• Use scanning equipment to ensure accurate tracking of inventory within the facility.
• Count packaging materials as requested by manager/supervisor.
• Work as a team with other forklift operators to prevent line stoppages and improve operations.
• Maintain work area in an organized and clean manner ensuring safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
• Meet or exceed performance goals, including pallets/labor hour, line loading, and truck turn time.
• Interact with production, warehouse, quality control and maintenance personnel to maximize output and efficiency.
• Perform manual labor.
• Proficient in picking, loading, and put away procedures, able to perform other lift and off lift activities as required.
• Able to work with little to no supervision, self-motivated, able to lead a team if necessary.
• Capable of printing all required paperwork for outbound loads.
• Experienced in reading labels, and knowledge of products, exp dates.
• Assist QA when required pertaining to hold materials.
• Train/Mentor new employees in the department with direction from the manager/supervisor.
• Report any food safety issues, plant security breaches, attempts at product tampering or contamination, and/or other suspicious behavior observed to manager/supervisor.
• Complete and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Daily Routine List (DRL), HACCP procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Compliance.
• Maintain a food-safe sanitary environment at all times.
• Complete records/quality checks with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Conduct hourly quality checks and inspect full goods and pallets or other raw materials, as necessary.
• Monitor and track equipment downtime, equipment output and other key metrics.
• Escalate any non-conforming product/equipment/material to the appropriate manager/supervisor immediately.
• Follow Company’s quality assurance procedures and protocols at all times while on duty (eg. Labeling of containers, Inventory Control, PM programs).
• Provide back-up support for other roles as necessary.
• Available for overtime work on a scheduled or call-in basis as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability necessary to perform this job successfully:
Education/Experience:
• *
• A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• General warehouse experience (e.g. shipping and receiving of goods).
• Minimum five (5) years forklift experience with a solid safety record; experience in a fast-paced forklift environment preferred.
• Exposure to manufacturing desired; experience in the food or beverage industry with knowledge of GMPs preferred.
• Experience using hand pallet jack and electric pallet jack.
• Experience packaging, loading, and off-loading goods.

Physical Requirements:

• Continuously stand/walk/bend/kneel/repetitive lifting throughout shift.
• Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds.

• Regularly climb ladders and occasionally work and heights of 100 feet.
