Overview
The Chicago Tribune is in search of an excellent and driven leader to join us as an Inserter Technician at our warehouse facility in downtown Chicago who will be responsible for performing all related machine set-up and operation functions on the Goss Magnapacks and auxiliary equipment under the direction of supervisory personnel. Our Technicians ensure safe and efficient operation of ... equipment and production of quality products which meet the Chicago Tribune's expectations and customer requirement. Additionally, Technicians assist with training new employees on your crew, direct employees in the absence of a direct supervisor, and communicate to all levels of employees.
The Freedom Center, our printing facility, is located at 560 W. Grand Ave along the Chicago River north of downtown with free (!) parking for employees and easily accessible via public transportation.

Responsibilities
• To ensure set-up of production/system's equipment is accurate with properly scheduled sections, pre-prints, preprint settings and inkjet settings.
• Reading and understanding all related documentation for expectations of achieving shift/department goals
• To inspect inserts using related documentation to ensure the correct versions are inserted into the correct packages
• Steady monitoring of the machine for: misses, multiples, package integrity and inkjet applicator
• To perform preventative maintenance and minor mechanical repairs when needed on magnapak equipment in a quality manner to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
• To inform maintenance department of mechanical and electrical problems on equipment and to follow-up with Packaging leadership on the issues and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Work with department leadership and promote a safe and healthy work environment for the department. By ensuring you and your crew adhere to the safety policy of wearing the proper hearing protection, steel toe shoes and housekeeping reduce/eliminate accidents.
• Must be willing to help train/coach newer employees on feeding expectations.
• To strive for a high degree of quality and quantity in all products produced to meet customer and department requirements.
• Ensure your machine (surrounding areas) are clean and organized by.
• To be familiar with and adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards of performance, attendance policy, substance abuse policy, housekeeping, safe working habits, standard operating procedures, etc.
• To inspect the contents of inserted packages, quality of inkjet printing and quality of products to be produced.
• To maintain effective and open communication with Team Leads and co-workers on any matters that may impact the integrity of production and/or distribution of the product, and report to the Team Lead/Manager other matters that require his/her attention.
• To perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• High School diploma or equivalent (prefer technical training)
• Typically requires one to two years of experience in a high volume production operation to meet standards in all aspects of the Technicians requirements.
• Must have strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, good mechanical knowledge and the ability to operate equipment including inserters (Magnapak), labelers, inkjet printers, stackers, tyers, etc.
• Must be skilled in the use of basic mechanical tools. Requires bending, twisting, kneeling, walking and standing for long periods of time and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Must have the ability to multitask, work independently and work under production deadlines.
• Must be self-motivated and have the desire to work.
• Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all personnel and other departments.
• Position requires working in production areas while forklifts, pallet jacks, inserting and related equipment is in use.
• Must adhere to company and department safety guidelines
