Title: Front Desk Receptionist
Reports to: Director of Development ... Status: Volunteer | Part or Full Time | 4 - 8 Hrs. between 8 am - 6 pm
Who We Are
Nicholas House’s mission is to help families who are experiencing homelessness and support them through their crisis. Nicholas House helps families who are struggling to pay rent, move into affordable homes, get themselves to work and their children off to school, and ultimately lift themselves up and out of poverty and toward a better life.
Nicholas House staffs a Front Desk Receptionist to support the important work of providing excellent customer service to our guests and program participants as well as front office staff. The Front Desk Receptionist acts as the gatekeeper for the front office. They allow access to other employees, answer phones, transfer calls, schedule appointments, answer questions, give directions and manage the flow of traffic in the office. It is the front desk receptionist who greets anyone who enters the building.
This position's main responsibility is to greet visitors and quests with a warm welcome and in a timely manner and direct them to the correct department or person depending on their situation. This person will be responsible for accepting donations – both cash and items.
Successful candidates must acquire outstanding written and verbal communication skills, notable attention to detail, and confidence in working with people.
What You’ll Do
The Front Desk Receptionist is responsible for:
• Opening the front door.
• Greeting residents, volunteers, and donors visiting the shelter.
• Answering the phone to respond to initial public inquiries from those inquiring about, seeking shelter, organizational partnerships, and others.
• Directing families who are interested in receiving our services to the appropriate resources.
• Reviews/distributes mail and ensures action items are focused on as needed.
• Assisting the Volunteer & Database Manager with volunteer communications.
• Working with the Development Team to prepare mail campaigns and donor acknowledgments as applicable.
• Other duties as assigned.
