TRAVEL: Occasional Travel within New York City, Long Island, and Staten Island (occasional attendance to weekend events may be needed)
RATE: $25 to $30 per hour

THE ROLE:
Healthix is seeking a Community Engagement Partner to support community outreach and public health initiatives across New York City and Long Island. This paid, part‑time opportunity is ideal for MPH students, public health interns, fellows, or recent graduates seeking applied experience in community engagement, health equity, and public health partnerships.
You will work closely with the Vice President of Government Affairs to support community outreach efforts, public health initiatives, and the promotion of Healthix Connects, our internal volunteer and community engagement program.
This opportunity is ideal for recent graduates, current college students, or early-career professionals who are looking to gain hands-on experience while building a meaningful career in public health, community engagement, and health equity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the cultivation and maintenance of strong, collaborative mission-aligned partnershipswith community-based organizations, harm reduction providers, advocacy groups, and public health partners.
- Assist in executing community engagement strategies aligned with organizational priorities and government affairs initiatives.
- Plan, coordinate, and track community engagement activities, including health fairs, volunteer events, and community outreach events.
- Promote community projects and events across Healthix’s social media platforms to increase awareness, engagement, and participation within the community.
- Represent Healthix at health fairs, community events, and volunteer activities; participate in both onsite and virtual meetings as needed.
- Track action items and follow-ups to ensure timely, seamless communication with community partners.
- Conduct outreach to prospective community partners to expand engagement opportunities and strengthen the organization’s network.
- Support internal coordination by maintaining calendar of community engagement activities.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
- Data & Analytical Skills: Ability to collect, organize, and interpret qualitative and quantitative community‑level data, and to identify regional public health issues, trends, and disparities relevant to community partners and public health priorities.
- Experience: Prior experience in community outreach, community development, health promotion, social work, or a related field is preferred. Internship or volunteer experience is welcome.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to establish rapport with community members and partners.
- Cultural Humility: Demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and cultural awareness when working with diverse communities.
- Technology & Social Media Proficiency: Social Media Platforms and digital tools savvy.
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and events simultaneously.
- Flexibility & Reliability: Willingness to travel to various locations within New York City, Long Island, and Staten Island for events and outreach activities; occasional evening or weekend availability may be required.
