The Network Operations Administrator plays a key role in managing and maintaining secure, reliable cloud and on-premises networking environments. This position oversees cloud-based networks, virtual private networks (VPNs), and physical network infrastructure to ensure performance, availability, and cybersecurity across all connected systems. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with problem-solving and communication skills to proactively identify and resolve network challenges and support organizational IT goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor cloud networking environments, including AWS VPC and Azure VNet.
- Configure, support, and troubleshoot on-premises networking hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Set up and maintain VPNs to enable secure remote access.
- Monitor and optimize network performance for uptime, reliability, and scalability.
- Implement and enforce network security measures, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and access controls.
- Conduct capacity planning, performance tuning, and scalability assessments.
- Execute software and hardware upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain detailed and current network documentation (diagrams, configurations, and procedures).
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to integrate and improve network services.
- Lead or support network-related projects from planning through implementation.
- Research and recommend emerging network technologies and best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or network administration.
- Proficiency in cloud networking (AWS VPC, Azure VNet).
- Experience managing enterprise hardware (Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.).
- Working knowledge of networking protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Experience using network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, or similar).
- Strong understanding of network security principles and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with Elasticsearch Enterprise and Kibana dashboards.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
- Active DoD Secret or higher security clearance required.
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including possible OCONUS travel.
- Must meet DoD 8570/8140 IAT-II certification requirements.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNP, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, or CompTIA Network+.
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and network automation tools.
- Knowledge of F5 and NGINX technologies.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation languages (Python, Ansible, PowerShell).
- Experience with ITIL processes and best practices.
- Prior experience using Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Service Management).
