Essential Functions:
- Identifies delinquent accounts, aging periods and payment sources (works denials, refunds, and over-paids). Processes delinquent unpaid accounts by contacting patients and third party reimbursers.
- Reviews each account for other information involving credit bureaus.
- Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone and resubmitting claims to third party reimbursers.
- Evaluates patient financial status and establishes budget payment plans. Follows and reports status of delinquent accounts.
- Reviews accounts for possible assignment and prepares information for collection agency.
- Answers inquiries and correspondence from patients and insurance companies.
- Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints. Researches credit balances.
- Must have knowledge of Electronic Medical Records.
- Enter accurately data and examine insurance documents.
- Deal courteously with patients, staff and others
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
- Knowledge of Athena (electronic medical records).
- Knowledge of Internet Insurance company searches.
- Excellent Customer Service skills.
- Must be well organized and detail organized and be able to work independently without much supervision.
- Must demonstrate current competencies applicable for the position such as typing or data entry.
- Knowledge of clinic/medical practice procedures related to all medical operations.
- Knowledge of phone system, copiers and fax machines.
- Knowledge of customer services principles and techniques.
- Must be capable of screening and directing calls in courteous and expeditious manner.
- Have a pleasant and courteous demeanor while dealing with all callers and must be able to effectively serve as a clinic liaison.
- Must be able to respond to stressful or emergency situations in a calm and effective manner.
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively as a member of office staff and team.
Mental/Physical Requirements:
- Mostly sedentary with some standing, walking, reaching.
- Daily and repetitive data entry.
- Periodic stress from handling many calls and patient requests.
- Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds.
