Job Description
The Technical Author is responsible for ensuring consistency in developing contract content for main infrastructure contracts, professional service contracts, and public-private partnership contracts. The role holder is responsible for defining requirements that can be consistently applied and measured throughout Project Procurement and subsequent contract administration. The role holder plays a pivotal role in collaborating with stakeholders to transform their needs into deliverables using consistent language and requirements. As part of the programme team, the Technical Author supports the development and delivery of the programme and provides general support and guidance to the team.
Principal Accountabilities
- Derive contract content from sponsors requirements, interfacing with all functions and stakeholders to enable contract requirements which meet the objectives of the programme.
- Develop contract requirements which are applied through contracting models such as NEC4 or PPP.
- Develop evaluation criteria which aligns to key performance indicators, critical success factors, the balanced scorecard and sponsors requirements.
- Support the overall programme evaluation criteria from a Delivery perspective.
- Respond to tender queries with concise and accurate clarifications.
- Evaluate tender returns using the tender evaluation models and scoring
- Define mapping from requirements to the benefits delivered in both a progressive and final state
- Collaborate with software developers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather information and understand complex technical concepts.
- Translate technical information into concise and easy-to-understand content for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide support, advice and recommendations for the introduction and use of cloud or web-based packages, to develop and host digital manuals/guides/technical documentation.
- Organise and structure documentation effectively, ensuring information is logically presented and easily accessible.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established style guidelines in all written materials.
- Conduct thorough reviews and edits to improve the clarity, accuracy, and usability of documentation.
- Assist in the design and formatting of documentation to enhance visual appeal and readability.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to repurpose technical content for marketing materials, blog posts, and other external communications.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and trends in technical writing to continually enhance the quality of documentation.
- Perform additional tasks, activities or other duties as may be required or assigned as part of the role.
Qualifications
- 10+ years’ experience in capital projects or asset management activities with at least 5 years’ specialised experience in bid or contract content writing including activities across the project lifecycle ideally within significant procurement activities through to completion in high value metro rail projects or projects of a similar scale/complexity.
- Demonstrable academic qualifications (NFQ Level 6 or 7) or equivalent
- Documentation Process, and the System/software engineering process.
- Experience and working knowledge of developing software/system manuals.
- Experience and working knowledge of cloud or web-based packages used for developing digital manuals/guides/technical documentation.
- Excellent experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Previous experience working within multi-disciplinary groups and managing complex interfaces.
Additional Information
- Proficiency in creating clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation, such as user manuals, installation guides, and troubleshooting guides.
- Ability to communicate well with stakeholders, transforming their needs into deliverables using consistent language and requirements.
- Familiarity with engineering principles, especially those related to metro systems, including civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of systems integration.
- Knowledge of quality management and process improvement practices and systems is desirable, preferably within the construction sector.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate clear and consistent dialogue between all parties involved.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and collaboration skills.
