About the Oncology Nurse Role:
We are looking to add to our growing hospital and are in search of a veterinary nurse (vet tech) to join our Oncology Department. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and is able to be both adaptable and organized. This role requires 3 years of experience in veterinary medicine.
Schedule & Compensation:
Schedule: Monday-Thursday 7:30am - 5:30pm
Compensation: Pay range starts at $23/hr and is based on experience/licensure
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in running oncology appointments and providing client education on treatment plans.
- Administer chemotherapy treatments while utilizing all required safety measures and PPE.
- Perform IV catheter placements and ensure proper medication administration.
- Support minimal sedation/anesthesia procedures for biopsies and scans.
- Monitor patient condition closely and be able to be adaptable.
- Triage patients effectively, identifying when immediate care is required.
- Work with patients who may be at the end of life, providing compassionate and dignified care.
- Stand for extended periods (up to one hour+ in full PPE) while drawing up and administering chemotherapy.
- Maintain detailed patient records and collaborate with the oncology team to ensure seamless care.
- Broad knowledge of basic small animal medicine (pharmacology, proper restraint/handling, venipuncture, laboratory testing)
- Minimum of 3 years experience in veterinary medicine
- Experience with sedation and anesthesia are required
- Current CVT/LVT/RVT or educational equivalency required

- Proficient catheter placement skills
- Work with doctor in administering chemotherapy (must be comfortable handling hazardous materials – will be fully trained, and be expected to adhere to strict safety guidelines)
- Proficient computer skills
- Communicate with clients, and team members (verbally and written)
- Attention to detail and a calm demeanor required
- Ability to work independently at times, focus, prioritize and multitask in a fast paced, environment
