Nurse:Patient Ratios 1 to 2
Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS) BLS ACLS PALS NIHSS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients resp failure, afib.rvr, suicide, detox, some medsurg overflow, occasional art lines, can take pediatrics , no PCU/intermediate care in building
Experience or 'Must have' skills ICU experience
Are RNs required to titrate drips yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips propofol, cardizem, insulin, precedex, levo, etc.
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Does the charge nurse take an assignment House Supervisor, no charge nurse
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios 1 clinical assistant most days 24 hours/day depending on census
Hospitalist or Intensivist in house yes, but not for certain practices
RT in ICU 24/7 in house 24/7, covers all areas
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) All
Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit Are RNs required to read their own strips What brand are the tele monitors RNs monitor and read strips for medsurg and ICU - house wide
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling Block scheduling) 12-hour shifts, 645-715, extra shifts may be available, if traveler has preferences manager is open to working with block scheduling
Weekend Requirements every other- required. Night shift is Friday Saturday Sunday
Holiday Requirements rotates with regular staff
Is there a call or standby requirement no
Floating Requirements if census is low they may float to medsurg as needed, typically do not take a full team of patients
Scrub Color/Dress Code any, other than camo or orange.
Unit/Department specific orientation Will review with manager, tour, introductions, discuss policies, education department sets up meditech training, pharmacy and lab training. 3-5 days of training on the unit.
