Job Description
TITLE
Senior Administrative Assistant and Law Clerk, Legislative Affairs
Performs as a principal legislative affairs administrative support position to the Office of General Counsel and the Director of Governmental Relations. Work includes reviewing and interpreting higher education legislation and identifying and tracking legislation through the legislative process.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the assistant vice chancellor for strategy and in collaboration with the director of government relations and the Office of General Counsel.
Work will be mainly accomplished remotely but will require availability for weekly meetings and updates with the aforementioned university administrators.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategy and Chief of Staff
Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:
• Reviews, monitors, and tracks all legislation proposed during the legislative session that may impact the Texas Woman’s University System.
• Reviews legislative reports, performs benchmarking, and produces a list of all new, revised, or repealed State of Texas statutes and regulations that apply to TWU.
• Collaborates with TWU Administration to determine the division or office responsible for implementation or compliance with proposed statutes or regulations.
• Compiles regular summary status reports of legislation that may impact TWU, prepares and edits memoranda, checks reports or manuscripts for accuracy, and proofreads outgoing correspondence.
• Answers correspondence as assigned without referring to the administrator.
• Assembles and organizes materials used by the supervisor in completing work assignments.
• Maintains confidential records and files.
• Performs counsel for the administrative officer on departmental or institutional matters, supplying information from a variety of sources.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
• Performs other duties as requested.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree required. Must provide proof of current enrollment in law school.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in the Texas Legislature is highly preferred but not required. Proficient communication and legal research skills. Demonstrated experience in project management and independent work production.
REQUIREMENT
Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures.
Ability to commit to 20 hours per week toward the project.
Must be enrolled in law school - 2L or 3L.
2.5 minimum GPA.
