Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is responsible for providing critical and highly specialized care to patients with severe, life-threatening conditions. This role involves monitoring patients closely, administering advanced treatments, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to stabilize and improve patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities:
Critical Patient Care:
- Assess, monitor, and manage patients with acute and complex medical conditions.
- Administer and manage medications, fluids, ventilators, and other life-support systems.
- Perform rapid response interventions during emergencies, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced life support.
Care Planning:
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on thorough patient assessments and physician directives.
- Continuously evaluate and adjust care plans to meet changing patient conditions.
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans, medical conditions, and recovery expectations.
Monitoring and Assessment:
- Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and diagnostic tests to detect changes in patient conditions.
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and monitoring systems.
- Record and document patient data accurately and timely in electronic health records (EHR).
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring the best possible care and addressing concerns effectively.
- Participate in daily rounds and critical care discussions with the healthcare team.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to ICU protocols, infection control policies, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety programs.
- Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with advancements in critical care nursing through ongoing education and training.
- Mentor and guide new staff or nursing students as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current and unrestricted RN license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience accepted.
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of ICU or critical care nursing experience.
- Proficient in the use of advanced medical equipment and technology.
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills.
