Compensation Responsibilities - Design control strategies based on plant manufacturing processes
- Implementation of the control strategies using the FLS ASYS PLC function blocks and corresponding FLS ECS HMI graphical objects
- Review the existing hardware architecture for PLC-based control systems, supporting equipment, and design improvements as needed.
- Program PLC and DCS control systems, primarily using the FLS ASYS function blocks for the PLC and corresponding HMI graphic objects for the HMI
- Design and develop graphics and support programming for control systems
- Design and create custom PLC code and HMI graphic objects as needed to integrate sub-system PLCs with the main control system in a way that presents a common interface to the operator
- Coordinate control system startup, checkout, and commissioning activities
- Planning FAT and simulation testing
- Coordinate with the network team to implement the control system network architecture, including implementing distributed network switches through the control networks.
- Troubleshoot control systems and control system networks as required
- Participate in the development and maintenance of control system standards
- Document control system applications
- Develop and implement an overall strategy for a control system upgrade at a large cement manufacturing facility.
- Mentor less experienced Engineers
Education Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences
Requirements/Qualifications - Minimum of seven years experience in industrial manufacturing
- Proven experience in writing PLC logic and developing programs for various PLC systems including Rockwell Allen Bradley
- Experience with engineering and developing PLC code using the FLS ASYS function block system
- Good knowledge of analog and digital I/O systems and hardware
- Knowledgeable in basic electrical systems, motor controls, and instrumentation
- Must have familiarity with computer networking and communication systems, particularly as they relate to automation systems
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings including P&ID, interconnection, and elementary drawings
- Will be required to travel to company facilities and other meeting locations
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
- Ability to coordinate the work of others and direct them as and when needed
- Strong interpersonal skills required; work cooperatively with plant and corporate personnel
Preferred:
- Cement, concrete, and aggregate manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of distributed control systems (DCS)
- Knowledge of data archiving systems (OSI Pi) and data interfacing
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or other CAD software
- Ability to design and layout control panels
- Project management skills
- Experience with Siemens PLC's
- Experience with other HMI systems in a client/server configuration
Conditions of Employment Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
