The Urgent Care Physician at Unity at the DC Jail is responsible for diagnosing and managing a wide range of urgent and emergent medical issues. This role involves triaging and treating patients with acute mental health concerns, substance use disorders, and managing medical emergencies within the facility. The physician must also perform common outpatient procedures and work collaboratively with custody to ensure the well-being of residents.
Unity at the DC Jail is looking for a dynamic, flexible doctor who enjoys a varied and sometimes high-paced work environment. The urgent care physician in his/her designated specialty is primarily responsible for the diagnosis and management of urgent and emergent medical problems that present to the urgent care clinic at the DC Jail. The urgent care team also triages and manages patients with acute mental health concerns, substance use disorders including acute withdrawal (experience prescribing MAT/MOUD a plus), and occasionally non-urgent conditions such as chronic disease deterioration or minor complaints. The urgent care physician responds to medical emergencies that occur within the facility and assists with intake lab review and other tasks/duties essential to maintaining the health and wellness of the resident population. Successful applicants will be skilled at common outpatient and urgent care procedures such as incision and drainage, suturing, foreign body removal and wound evaluation and initial management. Medical staff work closely with custody to ensure the health, safety and well-being of residents and staff alike. Work schedule will include some overnight and weekend shifts.
