PURPOSE: ES&E is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of our organization. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing accounting processes, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and leading the accounting team. This is a critical role that requires expertise in financial management, and a strong understanding of accounting principles.
*This position is not remote/hybrid. This position is expected to be in the office Mon-Fri.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Manage internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting policies, regulations, and company standards.
Ensure accurate and timely tax reporting, filings, and compliance with relevant tax laws.
Accounting Operations:
Supervise the accounting team, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Lead the monthly and year-end close processes to ensure timely financial reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Develop and manage company-wide budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with department heads.
Provide financial analysis and insights to support business planning, decision-making, and performance evaluation.
Track and report on variances against budget, providing actionable recommendations for corrective action.
Audit & Internal Controls:
Coordinate external and internal audits, providing necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries.
Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent financial fraud.
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performance team culture.
Ensure ongoing staff training and professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting practices and regulatory changes.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement:
Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Collaborate with IT and other departments to implement new technologies or software to streamline financial operations.
Ad-Hoc Projects:
Lead or participate in various finance-related projects as needed, including M&A activity, system implementations, or process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
- Mini. of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with tax compliance and financial audits.
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and dependability.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Able to travel to other branches as needed.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- · Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment strongly preferred.
- · Knowledge of ERP systems implementation or upgrades.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods, typically up to 8 hours a day.
- Typing and Data Entry: Proficiency in typing and data entry, requiring manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Reaching and Handling: Ability to reach, handle, and manipulate objects such as files, documents, and office equipment.
- Visual Requirements: Must have the ability to see/read computer screens & printed documents within normal ranges, with or without corrective devices.
- Hearing and Speaking: Ability to hear and speak clearly for phone conversations and in-person communication.
- Mobility: Ability to move around the office to access files, office equipment, and attend meetings.
- Lifting: Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds, such as boxes of paper or office supplies.
