We have an opening for a full-time Senior Network Engineer to join our talented, dynamic team in support of a large Federal Government customer.
The Senior Network Engineer will support the Department of Veterans Affairs' Network, Design, Implementation, and Infrastructure program. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will work with a team of peers to design, deploy, and defend network and network security solutions for a globally distributed enterprise network.

Duties
- Performing systematic troubleshooting of complex technical problems
- Experience running and analyzing packet captures using Wireshark, tcpdump, or other equivalent clients
- Designing, deploying, and operating:
- Network-based security solutions in a large and diverse network using a variety of vendor products (F5, Palo Alto, Cisco, etc.)
- Email security gateway solutions such as Cisco Email Security Appliances
- Cisco and Juniper data center routing and switching products including Cisco Nexus 9K, 5K and 2K platforms, Juniper QFX and EX switches (traditional NX-OS, VXLAN w/ EVPN, Juniper MIST), Cisco IOS XE, Cisco IOX XR, Junos
- SD-WAN networks
- Intrusion Prevention Systems (Cisco FTD)
- Remote access solutions (Cisco AnyConnect, Citrix, Palo Alto)
- Providing subject matter expertise in the theory and operations of a wide variety of protocols and technologies (e.g., IP, TCP, UDP, Ethernet, PKI, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL/TLS GRE IPSec routing protocols MPLS etc.)
- Cloud experience including cloud access points (cloud direct connects, AWS transit gateway and Azure express route)
- Experience with reading, writing, or modifying scripts (Shell, Perl, F5's iRule and Tcl)
- Designing and deploying solutions to address security gaps
- Designing and troubleshooting multi-area OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and MPLS environments
- Testing new and existing network solutions using sophisticated testing technologies (e.g., Ixia)
- Utilizing enterprise network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds)
- Experience using logging tools such as Splunk
- Creating detailed, accurate, and polished system/network diagrams using Microsoft Visio
- Bachelor's degree in technology-related field. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of applicable experience – We are seeking candidates with experience in designing, architecting, and implementing medium to large sized networks including the deployment of technologies in these networks.
- Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Routing and Switching and CCIE are preferred.
- A strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.
- A thorough understanding of the TCP/IP stack.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Able to work collaboratively with a team of peers.
- Duties may require traveling, being on call periodically, and occasionally working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
- Ability to learn new technologies and products, independently, using documentation and online resources.
