RN Recovery Team 3 East Full Time
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for assuming a leadership role with interdisciplinary team to achieve the desired goals and resource
outcomes. Responsible for acquiring working knowledge of and maintaining ongoing understanding of required
practices, procedures and processes to meet and exceed regulatory compliance standards. Adheres to the Mission,
Vision, and Values of UT Health Science Center at Tyler.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/CRITICAL TASKS
* Establish an initial and maintain an updated interdisciplinary plan of care that contains all required elements.
* Have the clinical nursing skills and competencies necessary to perform the essential tasks of this position as well as
the essential tasks of the staff RN on a Behavioral Health Unit.
* Attend morning report and plan of care team meetings.
* Assist patients (as needed) to complete any screening questionnaires, assessments,or surveys at admission and
discharge.
* Facilitate access to routine and preventative medical care to include but not limited to accompanying patients to
appointments and provide education on diagnosis or medication regimen to patient and family as requested.
* Perform chart audits to make sure that the medical record documentation is complete.
* Obtain medical records (and patient's corresponding written consent) as requested by physician.
* Respect hospital policies and rules and make ethical decisions based upon consent and confidentiality.
* Collaborate with nursing staff and attending doctors in establishing patient admission, discharge or transfer.
* Completion of Annual Mandatory Training, SAMA training, TB testing, and required licensure and certifications before
expiration date.
* Accountable for the identification and reduction of unsafe practices that could cause harm to patients.

ACCOMPANYING KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES
* Bilingual a plus.
* EMR experience preferred.
* Knowledge of standard patient care equipment, supplies, and mechanical devices for the selected patient population.
* Skill in observing and evaluating behavioral changes in individuals served in a psychiatric setting.
* Standard hospital related office equipment.
* The ability to interact with co-workers, customers and visitors in a professional manner.
* This position requires the ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, trustworthiness, orderliness, accuracy,
punctual attendance during stated hours of work.
* Constantly communicating effectively, exchanging accurate information, using judgment.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
* Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
* Three (3) years' RN experience; Two (2) years' RN experience in a Behavioral Health or Psychiatric
area preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES/ CERTIFICATION
* Must possess and maintain a current RN license to practice in Texas.
* Must possess and maintain current BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
* Current SAMA training preferred at hire.
* Specialty certification preferred at hire and preferred within 12 months of eligibility. (ex - Certified Psychiatric
Mental Health Nurse)
DECISION MAKING REQUIREMENT
Responsible and accountable for making decisions that are based on the individual's educational preparation and
experience in nursing. They are responsible for performing tasks and procedures that are: within the scope of his/her
educational preparation and knowledge; permitted by the policies and procedures of UT Health Science Center at
Tyler, the Board of Nurses and permitted by other local, state, and federal guidelines. Exercises discretion with
respect to assisting the Recovery Team, Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager by determining importance of issues and
when and if to refer them.
COMMUNICATION
The RN Recovery Team nurse will have internal and external contact with employees, management and patients
and their family members. Will maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating
information; responding to requests, building rapport, participating in team problem-solving methods. Will clearly
and effectively express ideas and thoughts (verbally and in writing) and will listen actively.
