Parsyl operates in the US and London insurance markets through a Managing General Underwriter (MGU) and its own managed syndicate at Lloyd’s of London, which it utilizes to lead one of the largest marine cargo consortia in the London market. Parsyl has more than 20 different providers of third party capacity across its operations including delegated underwriting, consortia, reinsurance and Funds at Lloyd’s capacity providers.
Parsyl has experienced significant growth in the last 24 months through its focus on insuring underserved food, beverage and pharmaceutical commodities in the marine cargo space. Parsyl blends new data sources and modern technology with traditional underwriting expertise to help clients build more resilient and adaptable supply chains. Parsyl offers a full suite of A-rated cargo insurance solutions, including Cargo and Stock Throughput, Shipper’s Interest, Cargo Legal Liability and Warehouse Legal Liability.

In this role, you will lead on:
Underwriting and Client Service:
- Underwrite submissions in alignment with Parsyl’s innovative data-driven underwriting approach.
- Deliver unparalleled customer service throughout the entire underwriting process.
- Support peers in review and education of risk considerations.
Business Development and Innovation:
- Lead broker engagement, developing market relationships to drive submission volume.
- Collaborate closely with Parsyl’s leadership to contribute to the creation of additional insurance solutions.
- Monitor market trends to anticipate opportunities for Parsyl to offer differentiated coverage and expand its business portfolio.
- Implement a strategic distribution plan to cultivate and expand relationships, ensuring sustainable pipeline growth.
Portfolio Management:
- Manage a diversified portfolio with a focus on achieving GWP growth, profitability and high renewal retention rates.
- Collaborate with Parsyl’s claims team to maintain an industry-leading loss ratio.
What You Bring to Parsyl
You will play an integral role on the underwriting team, primarily responsible for generating new business and expanding Parsyl’s market in North America.
This role is remote, based from a home office, ideally based in the Los Angeles metro area.
Experience and Expertise
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in marine cargo underwriting or broking.
- Proven track record of successful portfolio management and consistently achieving growth targets.
Collaborative Teamwork
- Strong desire to work within a highly collaborative, international team of underwriters.
- Ability to thrive in a team-driven environment while contributing to shared goals and success.
- Interest in and willingness to explore new approaches as part of a technology-driven insurance company.
Business Development and Client Relationship Management
- Eagerness to find and develop new business opportunities, contributing to overall portfolio growth.
- Willingness to travel to both domestic and international locations an estimated 10-20% of the time.
- Proven experience in servicing risk submissions with exceptional customer service.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey the company’s insurance approach to brokers.
It's a bonus if you also have:
- Additional language skills, including Spanish
- Previous experience working with an insurtech
Market competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range of $120,000-$160,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual Underwriter bonus pool. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s location, experience, qualifications, and skills.
