Summary Position Summary:
To work safely with a registered technologist. A technologist assistant must adhere to and understand all safety protocols/processes within the imaging department. Transports patients with modality specific wheelchairs and stretchers (when indicated), screens patient and assists technologist as needed.
Position Requirements:
Formal Education / Training:
High School Diploma or equivalent
BLS is required within 90 days of hire
Must have minimum of Level I MRI training within 30 days of hire (Williamson Health will assist with level I training).
Workplace Experience:
None required but, willingness to learn is essential.
Equipment and Skills Training:
On the job training. Handling wheelchairs, stretchers, IV poles and oxygen tanks. Maintains CPR certification. Assists with patient positioning. General computer knowledge as well as a keen mind for safety. Will train on specific equipment utilized within the imaging department.
Physical Environment:
Outpatient/Hospital setting, patient testing areas. Radiation safety, MRI safety and universal precautions practiced within multi-modality imaging department including large field strength magnet with focus on patient safety.
Physical Effort:
Able to communicate clearly both in written and verbal forms. Makes appropriate decisions in urgent or emergent situations. Demonstrates emotional stability and physiological health in day to day interactions with fellow employees, patients, their families and physicians. Ability to transport patients in a wheelchair or stretcher up to 250lbs, independently or dependently. Ability to sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, and lift over 20lbs.
Key Results:
Obtains pertinent patient history to include screening MRI patients, allergies and fall risk in preparation for exam.
Has comprehensive knowledge to assist the technologist in setting up exam room in all imaging modalities. Ensures patient safety before, during and after exam.
Checks patient identification to ensure accuracy prior to tech hand off.
Willingness to alter schedule and work different shifts to help with coverage. Makes good use of time and is willing to assist in other modalities as needed.
Communicates details of patient status with hospital staff. Answers phone calls as necessary. Follows hospital transport process to include appropriate details for patient handoff.
Understands MRI safety zones, implant safety pertinent to ferrous magnetic fields along with radiation safety.
Assist technologist in stocking exam room with any supplies or linens needed.
Cleans wheelchair/stretcher with disinfectant after each patient. Follows standard universal precautions in all clinical areas.
Ensures patient has the proper attire for exam to promote diagnostic quality imaging along with patient safety.
Strives to maintain the dignity of each patient by ensuring that they are covered at all times while caring for the patient.
Keeps patients informed of wait times and/or next steps in the imaging department.
