Job Description:
The Mission of the Department of Public Instruction:
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Administrative Officer I (Working Title: Facility Support Services Coordinator) for our Office of Chief of Staff/Office of Strategic Planning & Facility Management/Facility Support Services Section.
The Office of Strategic Planning & Facility Management/Facility Support Services Section is responsible for the day-to-day operational functions for the Department of Public Instruction’s physical offices located in Raleigh, NC. The unit provides support for employees and guests with guidance and instruction for everyday functions related to the unit’s areas of responsibility, including, but not limited to: Facilities Maintenance, Safety, Security, Inventory Management, Surplus, and Shipping & Receiving.
The Facility Support Services Coordinator serves as the lead point of contact and resource for agency staff for issues related to building access, building and personnel safety, building security, coordination of facilities maintenance needs, and parking. The Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between NCDPI and the Dept. of Administration’s (DOA) Facilities Management Division, for all requests related to facility upkeep and maintenance, including housekeeping. The Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between NCDPI and State Capitol Police (SCP), ensuring a smooth working relationship with SCP personnel who provide daily security for the agency’s headquarters. The Coordinator also ensures that the agency’s off-site warehouse facility remains functional, including oversight of personnel to manage inventory. The Coordinator plans and supervises the work of one or more staff members within the work unit.

This position is ineligible for remote work and is expected to be present on-site Monday-Friday to ensure the successful operation of the agency’s primary offices.
While overnight travel is not typically expected of this position, the individual in this role will be required to occasionally travel between locations inside the city of Raleigh and must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Although primarily administrative in nature, this position requires frequent standing and walking and occasional physical labor including lifting, carrying, and moving items such as boxes or furniture weighing up to 100 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Demonstrated experience utilizing basic security standards and/or occupational safety standards relevant to the operation of a professional work environment.

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:
Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds frequently and/or 100 pounds occasionally.
Working knowledge of state and/or federal government facilities operational practices.
Experience or training in traditional trades (eg: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, etc.)

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in HR, budgeting, research or administrative management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
