Some of what you'll be doing:
As an Assistant Director, Emergency Preparedness, you will lead, manage, and coordinate the Emergency Preparedness team, mission, facilities, supplies, planning, training, and exercises to ensure comprehensive Port-wide preparedness and resiliency efforts are executed across internal and external entities. You will enhance and sustain the framework for prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery necessary to reduce all-hazards and vulnerabilities and maintain the Port’s aviation and maritime operational capabilities that serve as critical infrastructure for the region.
You will develop and manage the Port’s preparedness and resiliency framework through ongoing assessments of the Port’s operational needs, vulnerabilities, threats, and risks.
You will utilize a methodical Port-wide all-hazards strategy for life-safety and business continuity consistent with national best practices emphasizing.
You will develop collaborative relationships with Port leaders and departments to enable implementation and sustainment of preparedness plans, policies, procedures, organization, equipment, training, and exercise efforts consistent and/or compliant with national best practices, standards, and regulatory requirements.
You will manage, mentor, and sustain an effective Emergency Preparedness Team focused on the POETE methodology to provide consistent guidance, training and support to affected department personnel responsible for public safety and operational continuity.
You will provide guidance, coordination, and support to Port leadership during emergencies to maximize response efficiencies, minimize operational impacts, and expedite recovery.
You will develop and maintain effective relationships with regional partners and stakeholders to maintain the Port’s capabilities and responsibilities as critical infrastructure and a regional economic engine.
Who you are:
Experienced – You have six (6) years of experience as a public safety, security and/or emergency preparedness representative and two (2) years of experience supervising or managing staff in the field of emergency management.
Desired – We hope you have National Incident Management System/Incident Command System 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800, 402, G-191.

What else you need to know:
Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
