Job Summary:
The UW-Madison School of Medicine & Public Health (SMPH) Office of Global Health (OGH) technically opened in 2017, but builds on the long history of global health programs at SMPH and the previous UW-Madison Center for Global Health at SMPH which was created in 2005. The OGH is directed by Dr. James H. Conway, and is administered through the SMPH Office of Academic Affairs, under the leadership of Senior Associate Dean, Dr. Elizabeth Petty.
The primary function of the OGH is coordination of a variety of educational activities for health professional, graduate, and capstone students. This includes the popular and successful Graduate/Professional & Capstone Certificates in Global Health Online program, under the direction of Dr. Ann Evensen. The OGH also serves as a hub to enhance collaboration and communication among related global health programs in the SMPH, such as departmental-level global health activities and postgraduate global health training of MD clinical residents and fellows. The OGH also serves as an important link for the SMPH to the UW-Madison Global Health Institute and its array of global health programming and opportunities.
The Academic Program Specialist provides administrative support for the Office of Global Health in the School of Medicine and Public Health. The Academic Program Specialist is critical to the efficient functioning of this unit, providing direct support to the OGH Director and the Faculty Director of the Global Health Certificate Programs. The Specialist acts as the primary contact for many internal and external stakeholders, but most importantly connects students, faculty, and other staff, facilitating educational and personal growth in the field of global health while ensuring that UW system and UW-Madison School/Department/Program rules and requirements are fulfilled.
These responsibilities include:
Coordinating international medical student clerkships & independent study programs
Coordination of the Graduate Certificate in Global Health programs
Managing scheduling of meetings and committee activities
Serving as liaison to the Global Health Institute, including assisting with the GHI Seminar series and the annual spring Global Health Symposium
Liaison to collaborating educational programs (ex. Masters in Public Health; Physician Assistant; UW Health Graduate Medical Education Global Health Track; Schools of Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and Nursing; International Division; College of Agriculture & Life Sciences Global etc)
Assisting with supervision of student hourly workers
Management & coordination of fall Medical Spanish courses
Assistance with budget creation, and management of fiscal activities (ex reimbursements, travel booking etc)

Responsibilities:
Contributes to the development, implementation, administration, coordination, and evaluation for one or more academic programs to ensure effectiveness in meeting departmental and student development goals and initiatives. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
20% Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events
30% Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews
30% Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement
15% May supervise the day to day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.
5% Committee representation on global health and other collaborating committees at the Department, School, Campus and/or interprofessional levels.

Required:
experience with planning, scheduling, and coordination of events and programs
two or more years of recent and relevant project management/coordination experience
proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
proficiency in professional/academic writing, proofreading, and oral communication skills
Preferred:
one or more years of experience in higher education
knowledge and experience in global health education
knowledge and experience of coordinating students and/or faculty across varied Schools, Programs and Departments
knowledge and experience with platforms such as UW SIS (student service platform), Qualtrics, Canvas, WordPress, Eloqua, Salesforce, and various social media platforms
experience with recruitment and marketing in higher education

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
