The School of Physical Sciences (SoPS) offers strategic research support in which our staff serve as a valuable resource for faculty and researchers, assisting them to secure support for the research and educational initiatives of the SoPS. Our efforts encompass developing strategies to expand the Physical Sciences research enterprise, advising on proposal development and interactions with funding agencies, fostering collaborative discussions for multidisciplinary proposals, notifying about strategic funding opportunities, and funding agency priorities, and coordinating grant support and cost-sharing among campus units.

Your Role on the Team
The Physical Sciences Research Development Analyst is responsible for recommending and implementing strategies to increase the research productivity of the School of Physical Sciences (SoPS). This position reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and works collaboratively with faculty and staff leadership in SoPS and on campus. The main function of this position is to assist SoPS faculty in securing extramural funding for research, infrastructure, and workforce development from federal and state agencies, industry, and foundations. Specific responsibilities include preparation and management of large-scale proposal development efforts, early career faculty proposal support and coaching, identification and promotion of funding opportunities, and graduate student fellowship identification and mentoring. The Research Development Analyst will lead initiatives to increase engagement with collaborators and outside entities, including hosting program officers and other relevant visitors. This includes event coordination, scheduling, catering, and all associated administrative details.
The successful candidate will have progressive administrative experience and skill as a research administrator to independently develop and/or oversee research proposals and awards related to contract and grant proposal development as well as maintain records to ensure compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. The role involves working on proposals of diverse scope where success requires thorough understanding of complex rules and regulations, funders, and scientific research. The candidate will handle complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards and will guide less experienced staff, including department financial analysts, in best practices for proposal preparation. Typically, this position works on complex proposals that require advising on the scope of work, task budgets, option years, multiple investigators, and multiple sub awards.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$69,500- $$80,000 (Annual).
Required:
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
Thorough knowledge of contract and grant funding agencies; Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.
Ability in project management and effective time management.
Ability to maintain independent judgment, strong organization and communication skills, and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsors guidelines.
Science and/or engineering background with the ability and curiosity to understand scientific research broadly.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
3-5 years progressive experience in research development and administrative support.
Preferred:
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
MS or PhD
