Position Description
The HSPC (Human Subjects Protection Committee) is RAND’s Institutional Review Board. The HSPC Administrator will be responsible for facilitating compliance with policies regarding the use of human subjects by overseeing HSPC (Human Subjects Protection Committee) reviews of research funded by both the government and private sources to promote compliance with ethical, regulatory, legal and institutional guidelines for the protection of human research subjects. This is a full-time regular position addition to current IRB administration staff.
Responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to:
Process and coordinate HSPC reviews of projects involving human research subjects, beginning with the initial review to the projects end.
Apply knowledge of ethical, regulatory, legal, and institutional guidelines to project reviews.
Manage IRB reliance agreements.
Field questions pertaining to human research subjects issues, from researchers as well as HSPC committee members and others. Provide educational outreach to researchers on HSPC issues and topics.
Research new and emerging human research subject's issues, as well as issues for which there are different interpretations and application, as needed.
Participates in projects aimed at improving the processes and procedures used by HSPC Committee members and administrative staff.
Qualifications
Training in OHRP and Common Rule regulations
Experience in HSPC IRB administration applying regulations and making determinations in social and behavioral research
Experience with HURON software for IRB administration
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work independently, including problem-solving
Strong ability to organize and prioritize work, and respond well to varied work demands
Excellent ability to work as part of an administrative team
Ability to exercise excellent judgement and interpersonal skills
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's Degree; Preferred: Master's Degree
Experience
Minimum: 3 years related experience; Preferred: 6 years or more related experience

Santa Monica, CA; Washington DC; Pittsburgh, PA (relocation assistance available) and offers flexibility for a hybrid work situation.
Salary range: $62,700 - $93,500
