Excellence Community Schools (ECS) is a Charter Management Organization (CMO) supporting schools in the Bronx, NY and Stamford, CT. Our programs are based on a proven, nationally recognized model, which originated in our flagship school, the Bronx Charter School for Excellence, a National Blue Ribbon School.

Job Overview
The Managing Director of Academics: Teacher Development is responsible for identifying and developing talent for our coaching pipeline. They are expected to outline key experiences for prospective coaches and determine when milestones have been met successfully. The Managing Director of Academics: Teacher Development will also work collaboratively with school leaders and other stakeholders to enhance instructional practices, improve student outcomes and promote a culture of continuous improvement. This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer.
Candidate Profile
- Lifelong learner of curriculum and student learning
- High confidence in ability to help most students reach grade level or above achievement, regardless of background
- Strong background knowledge in relevant content areas
- Comfortable identifying and describing talented teachers
- Experience developing teachers into coaches or some other related position
- Enjoys modeling instructional practices for and with teachers in a classroom setting
- Delivers feedback that is timely, objective, direct and constructive
- Considers the whole adult and the whole child when using data to make decisions
- Gravitates towards high accountability environments
- Traditional leaning regarding educational practices (direct instruction, frequent assessment and homework, etc.)
- Open to travel (organization has several school sites)
- Willingness to work on site (some remote work is possible)
Priority Responsibilities
- Help design ECS coaching-in-training model
- Identify, train and evaluate prospective coaches as needed, remain a resource for coaches after training period ends
- Identify and support professional development needs for the network
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field. Doctorate preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in education, preferably with a minimum of 5 years in a teacher development role.
- Base salary $150,000. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
