Founded in 1981 by Robert Redford, Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the discovery and development of independent artists and audiences. We believe in the transformative power of storytelling and strive to support visionary creators from around the globe in their pursuit of bringing unique and compelling stories to life.

Our Mission

At Sundance Institute, our mission is to empower independent artists by providing them with the resources, platforms, and opportunities needed to create and share their work with the world. Through our year-round programs, workshops, and labs, we foster a creative community that encourages bold, original voices in film, theatre, and new media.

What We Do

• Artist Programs: We support emerging and established artists through a variety of year-round programs, including labs, grants, and residencies. These programs provide hands-on mentorship, guidance, and funding to help artists refine their craft and develop new projects.
• Sundance Film Festival: Our annual Sundance Film Festival, held in Park City, Utah, is the premier showcase for independent storytelling, attracting filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences from around the world.
