Under supervision of the Newborn Screening (NBS) Follow-up Program Manager, appointee serves as a NBS Follow-up Coordinator for the SC NBS Program. The employee will serve as an indirect/short-term case coordinator for infants with abnormal screening results for endocrine, genetic, hemoglobin, and metabolic disorders. NBS disorder areas include but are not limited to Congenital Hypothyroidism, Hemoglobin disorders, Cystic Fibrosis, metabolic and lysosomal storage disorders, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, Adrenoleukodystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and other new NBS disorders as assigned.

The NBS Coordinator notifies hospitals, physician offices, Maternal & Child Health (MCH) Bureau, and/or appropriate medical staff concerning infants with abnormal NBS lab results. The coordinator also collaborates with healthcare providers and medical specialists to ensure linkage to care for infants identified with potential NBS disorders. The coordinator performs short-term case management by establishing, tracking, and maintaining accurate and complete patient case files to closure, including the patient&#39;s final diagnosis and/or outcome.
The NBS Coordinator provides guidance and assistance to hospitals, physician offices, and public health staff regarding NBS short-term follow-up procedures.
The NBS Coordinator assists in the development and implementation of an electronic patient case management system. The coordinator also works with stakeholders on tasks related to current and expanded NBS. Acquires and maintains competency in NBS patient case management system.
The NBS Coordinator collaborates with other staff to develop and implement QI activities and marketing materials (e.g., trainings, newsletters) for the NBS Follow-up program. The coordinator also collaborates with other NBS staff to populate the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) data repository by periodically keying and/or importing diagnostic patient case data.
The NBS Coordinator participates in pertinent meetings, trainings, and NBS emergency operations as needed. This includes being available to work Saturdays and providing select holiday coverage on a mandatory rotating basis, with other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a healthcare science with at least one (1) years' experience in Public Health. See preferred credential(s) and/or healthcare license(s) listed in the preferred qualifications section below. Or associate degree RNs with two (2) years of experience working with common conditions included in the newborn screening panel.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include clinical work experience with neonates or common medical conditions included on the newborn screening panel. A nurse (RN/LPN), registered dietitian (RDN/LD), registered medical laboratory scientist (MLS), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), certified genetic counselor (CGC), or Master of Public Health (MPH) professional is preferred.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
